“Agropro” increased the area of its organic hemp fields
This year, “Agropro” UAB increased the area of its organic hemp fields by 13%, reaching up to 2479 ha. If there is a sufficient demand, the fields could reach an area of more than 3000 ha.
All of the fields are located in Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The certified organic fields are cultivated with the FINOLA variety of hemp, which was developed by Professor Jace Callaway in Finland, and therefore grows perfectly in the northerly climate of the Baltic region. This non-narcotic variety of hemp belongs to the Cannabis sativa L. family, and is used for food preparation and oil extraction. The company uses an optical sorter and pasteurises each batch. Each batch also has a field-level GPS traceability certificate issued by EUROFINS. The processed products are certified by BRC and Kosher. New crops for the 2017 season include flax, chickpeas, quinoa, lentils, lupins, fava beans, etc.
“Agropro” UAB is the largest producer, processor and trader of hemp in the Baltic region, as well as being one of the largest producers of organic hemp in Europe.
